She’s Not That Girl
This poem was inspired by events in my childhood that I would rather forget but they have shaped me in ways I would not have expected. You may be able to relate but I truly hope you can’t. I was subjected to abuse as a young girl that should have never taken place. I do believe this shaped my mind in an unhealthy way about what “love” should look like. It molded me to believe things about relationships and men that I know now, just simply were not true. It caused me to feel shame and embarrassment that followed me throughout my young life. As I grew in my faith, walked closer with the Lord, and learned more about what healthy, God centered love should look like, I felt free from that shame. It no longer had a hold on my mind and my heart. God redeemed my heart and my body. No one else could do that for me. I was no longer bound.
“Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be put to shame.”
Psalms 34:5
