A Little About Me

Every poem has a story. They all have a foundation and it’s the foundation of the story that’s most intriguing at times. I wanted a space where you can learn the backstory of some of my poems and gain some insight into what inspired them. I have written poetry for many years. I won my first poetry contest when I was about 10 years old with a poem titled “Weeping Willow.” It was published in a young authors publication along with other poems written by kids my age. My Papaw had it framed and hanging on his wall for years. I guess you can say the writing bug bit me pretty early on. I didn’t write much as an adolescent. I wish I would have. Boy, wouldn’t that have been insightful to look back on now! It wasn’t until young adulthood, when the Lord took hold of my heart, that I found a desire to put thoughts to paper again. Even then, things were chaotic and new. There were still many storms and many things that weighed heavy on my heart. I was learning and growing and trying to figure out this “sanctification” thing. This is why so many of my poems center on faith. It was and continues to be, the only thing that has provided a constant sense of peace. Of course things are not always happy or easy just because I am a Christian. Things are very difficult at times but through it all, there is a hope that outweighs any trouble I may experience. This world is not my home. Jesus is. I have matured and grown a lot in my faith but there will always be room to grow until my final breath. I am married to wonderful man who loves the Lord and leads us well. We have two beautiful, grown daughters and a sweet fur baby named Sally. We live a pretty simple life. I really enjoy all things true crime and tending to my flowers. Fun Fact… many moons ago I was a decent softball player in high school. I still like to think I can do it, but my body tells me otherwise.

My greatest desire is that you find hope when you read my poetry because even in the poems that seem dark or lonely, the underlying truth remains… I was never alone and neither are you. I pray it stirs your heart to look within, examine yourself, and praise the God who loves you so.
