It Will Not Settle

I wrote this poem as I pondered a time in my life where someone I cared deeply about rejected me because of the life I lived before Christ. It was hard for them to see past the transgressions and I can’t say I blame them. It wasn’t pretty. My past had the potential to ruin their reputation and now in looking back, I cannot be angry. The Lord does work on our hearts and sanctification does happen but not always immediately. I spent years feeling guilt and shame and unworthiness because of the mistakes of my past. Because words do hurt and sometimes they never leave you. But the moment I placed my faith in Jesus, the stains of my past disappeared. The only view that mattered was God’s view and what he sees when he looks at me now. He sees his son Jesus. I am covered in his blood and clothed in his righteousness. This is the view that matters and that is why those fleeting moments of reflection on what used to be will not settle long within my heart and mind.
