If You Passed Me By

Here’s where I get to tell you the story of how I met my husband. This poem is about that day. One sunny day in August of 2001, my car decided to break down in the parking lot of my college dorm. I worked down the hill for the school’s security department and decided I would just walk to work that day and figure out the car issues later. As it were, there was a boy that worked in the same building for maintenance and happened to be on a golf cart going to pick up supplies. His friends joked with him about how run down the golf cart was and they made a bet with him that he could not pick up a girl driving it. He was determined to prove them wrong and said he would pick up the first girl he saw…23 years later, here we are.

He could have quite literally passed me by and everyday I thank the Lord he stopped. It was one time when placing a bet actually paid off.
