You may read this poem and think, “wow, what a downer!” It may seem like it shouldn’t fit under the heading “Flight” and that it should be under the heading “Storms.” I see why you would think both of these things. I hope after reading this poem once, maybe a few times, that you see it in a different light when you’re done. As a believer, we know this world is not our home. What we see and feel around us and the chaos that abounds should not catch us by surprise. From the moment sin entered the picture, the world was forever broken. The end of it will come. That is guaranteed. Scripture tells us that we do not know when that will take place but we are to be prepared! It is not something we should fear if we are in Christ. We should have a longing in hearts for eternity because we know that this is not the end of our story. Something much greater and beautiful, without sin and trouble, is still to come! This poem ends with that truth in mind. Rejoice! Take flight and look ahead to your inheritance!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”
