Call To Arms

I understand that some may feel this poem is “too political” in nature or “does not fit,” but like so many of my other poems, this one was inspired by what I see around me that moved me to write. This poem was never intended to “take sides” and I hope after reading it, that is clear. It pains my heart to see so many churches choosing to lift up a leader or political party from the pulpit rather than the God who created them. We turn political issues or leaders into the things that consume our hearts and minds. We allow these things to divide us even as the Church. We claim a man is “a God fearing believer” because he mentions the name Jesus but his life claims otherwise and we elevate him over God. The pulpit is a place to worship and recognize the only one worthy of our adoration and love. It is not a place to support or give credence to any particular political agenda. We must be mindful that we are not putting our trust in those in authority but rather in the one that put them there. We are called to respect and honor the ones God has placed in authority (Romans 13:1-2), good or bad. God is not wrong in his electing. Let’s keep our pulpit free from taking sides, preach the word, and exalt God alone. The only side we should be concerned about is the one that has the power to destroy them all.
